![]() They’ve got guns! They’ve got guns! Jesus, wha – they’ve got guns!” Ahhh, bugger. And the opposing forces going, “Fuckinell, look at these guys. So what could be more surprising than the 1st Battalion Transvestite Brigade? Airborne wing – the airborne wing parachuting into dangerous areas with fantastic makeup! And a fantastic gun. It’s – wrong shade of lipstick for the army, I’m afraid…”Īnd they’re missing a huge opportunity here cause we all know one of the main elements of attack is the element of surprise. If you’re a bloke wearing a lot of makeup, you know, uh, I don’t think they need to ask, really. And so you can’t join, even though the American armed forces have a distinct policy of “don’t ask, don’t tell” towards the alternative sexualities. So! I didn’t join the army, as you might have noticed… And um, and uh, yeah, cause there’s not much makeup in the army, is there? No? They only have that nighttime look, and that’s a bit slapdash, isn’t it? That’s a bit… And they look a mess. Wait ‘til they land! Then go up the clay pigeon. And clay pigeons – everyone shoots them in the air. ![]() Shooting clay – clay pigeons – the fuckers! Spiders eat flies, so they’re all right, you know – spiders keep them, you know – flies don’t eat fuckalls, so kill ‘em. I just think just standing there going, “Bang!” That’s not going to kill too many people, is it? You’d have to be really dodgy on the heart to have that – “Bang! Bang! Boom! Bang! Rat-a-tat boom! Bang!” I think they should just try that, you know.īut, uh, yeah, shooting clay pigeons, I think, yeah, go for that. And there is – they say – the National Rifle Association says that, “Guns don’t kill people, uh, people do.” But I think – I think the gun helps. There’s all this National Rifle Association and everyone in America is – I mean 13 year olds keep going out and they borrow – they get a hold of weapons from their grandfather’s arsenal – “I’ll borrow the Howitzer, the M16 machine gun, the Uzi, the” – what the fuck’s the grandfather doing? Th – This kid down in Arkansas just helped himself to a ton of military weapons and went and blew away his school. It seems fun – there’s this thing of power in your hands. And they always eat n – squirrels always eat nuts with two hands, always two hands, arararar, and occasionally, they stop and go, oh, uh, ah, as if they’re going, “Did I leave the gas on? No! I’m – no – I’m a fucking squirrel!” And occasionally they go, “Fucking nuts! Fed up with them always. ![]() And sometimes I’d get up that tree and that squirrel would be covered in makeup! “La la, la la, oh, oh. So running, jumping, climbing trees, putting on makeup when you’re up there. And gay men I think would agree.Īnd uh, it’s – it’s male lesbian, that’s really where it is, ok? Because – it’s true! Cause most transvestites fancy girls. And people do get that mixed up – they put transvestite there – no no no no! Little bit of a crowbar separation, thank you. Yeah, its – it’s not drag queen no, gay men have got that covered. Cause – cause if you’re a transvestite, you’re actually a male tomboy. ![]() And I say that and people go, ohhhyuhyuhyuh, no I was, I was going to be in the army when I was a kid. Yes, so, um, uh, I was going to be in the army when I was a kid. You know, its – end of your life, it’s quite difficult. Yes, I’m a professional transvestite so I can run about in heels and not fall over cause, uh, you know, if women fall over wearing heels, ah, that’s embarrassing, but if a bloke falls over wearing heels, then you have to kill yourself. “My parents were very sympathetic to me pursuing music. It didn’t matter, rock or jazz, I just liked to watch what the drummer was doing.”Īt around the age of ten, growing up in Des Moines, Iowa, the young Moore went to his parents and said that he wanted to play the drums. I always loved to watch the drummers when I would see a band playing. It had a bongo on it, and I was just fascinated by it and what it did. “I was really interested in the drums,” he says. It can be a challenge, but mostly I enjoy the variety these days as a jazz player.”Īs with many folks of a certain age now, Moore mentions the Beatles, and specifically Ringo Starr, the Fab Four’s drummer, as a reason for wanting to get into music. ![]() I enjoy that you have to be versatile and take any type of gig. My job is to keep time, then maybe have a chance to develop something, give some of my personality to the music. “As a drummer, I walk into a new situation and check things out. On the other hand, they can be hard to control! “Ride cymbals are designed for overtones. If you play with a relaxed grip, you get a nicer fuller tone out of the cymbal,” Moore says. “It also depends on how you hold your sticks. A single cymbal is capable of producing a wide array of sounds, depending on how and where the drummer strikes the instrument. Moore explains that besides time and feel, a good drummer works to mix the colors of the sounds that his drums and cymbals create. Hoffman adds that she appreciates Moore’s restraint while she plays “The cymbal is in the same range as the flute, and a drummer can really step on a flute player’s soloing,” she says, adding, “Besides feeling great in a rhythm section, Duncan is also a remarkable studio drummer and sight reader.” Wofford adds, “Preeminent drum master Duncan always brings a high level of creativity and energy to any performance.” “But a lot of what I’m playing is the feel of the tune and seeing where the soloist is going with the dynamics.” You don’t want to be overbearing,” he says. “I know that I’m going to play with a dryer cymbal backing up a flute. Speaking to Moore later in the evening, he says there is intentionality in his approach to the drums with differing soloists. When Schachter solos, there is a bit more punch to the drums and more splash in the sound of the cymbals. About the best way to describe Moore’s drumming is that it has a clean, crisp sound - a combination of restraint and excitement behind Hoffman’s flute. Hoffman plays lead and takes the first solo. The band launches into a blues, a slightly up-tempo number. ![]() Cigar in hand, Jim Croce’s portrait looms over my left shoulder, and mementos of the seventies’ singer/ songwriter hang along the wall opposite the bar. The code below compares global thresholding and adaptive thresholding for an image with varying illumination: The blockSize determines the size of the neighbourhood area and C is a constant that is subtracted from the mean or weighted sum of the neighbourhood pixels. cv.ADAPTIVE_THRESH_GAUSSIAN_C: The threshold value is a gaussian-weighted sum of the neighbourhood values minus the constant C.cv.ADAPTIVE_THRESH_MEAN_C: The threshold value is the mean of the neighbourhood area minus the constant C.The adaptiveMethod decides how the threshold value is calculated: In addition to the parameters described above, the method cv.adaptiveThreshold takes three input parameters: So we get different thresholds for different regions of the same image which gives better results for images with varying illumination. Here, the algorithm determines the threshold for a pixel based on a small region around it. In that case, adaptive thresholding can help. if an image has different lighting conditions in different areas. But this might not be good in all cases, e.g. In the previous section, we used one global value as a threshold. This code compares the different simple thresholding types: The first is the threshold that was used and the second output is the thresholded image. See the documentation of the types for the differences. Basic thresholding as described above is done by using the type cv.THRESH_BINARY. OpenCV provides different types of thresholding which is given by the fourth parameter of the function. The third argument is the maximum value which is assigned to pixel values exceeding the threshold. The second argument is the threshold value which is used to classify the pixel values. The first argument is the source image, which should be a grayscale image. The function cv.threshold is used to apply the thresholding. If the pixel value is smaller than the threshold, it is set to 0, otherwise it is set to a maximum value. For every pixel, the same threshold value is applied. You will learn the functions cv.threshold and cv.adaptiveThreshold. ![]() In this tutorial, you will learn simple thresholding, adaptive thresholding and Otsu's thresholding. If you want to create multiple sub plots in a single figure to show different aspects of a data, then the subplots() function should be used. Let us understand the code of the live example which is given below in which we have plotted two sub plots. Let us cover a live example to understand this function in more detail. The output for the above code is as follows: With the given below code snippet, we will create a figure having 2 rows and 2 columns of subplots. Matplotlib subplots() Function Returned Values This parameter is used to indicate the dict with keywords passed to the GridSpec constructor that is used to create the grid on which the subplots are placed on. This parameter is used to indicate the dict with keywords that are passed to the add_subplot call which is used to create each subplot. This optional parameter usually contains boolean values with the default is True. To control the sharing of properties among x (sharex) or among y (sharey) axis these parameters are used. The parameter nrows is used to indicate the number of rows and the parameter ncols is used to indicate the number of columns of the subplot grid. Let us discuss the parameters used by this function: The basic syntax to use this function is as follows: (nrows, ncols, sharex, sharey, squeeze, subplot_kw, gridspec_kw, **fig_kw) Matplotlib subplots() Function Parameters Various kind of subplots supported by matplotlib is 2x1 vertical, 2x1 horizontal or a 2x2 grid. The main objective of this function is to create a figure with a set of subplots. This function helps in creating common layouts of subplots and it also includes the enclosing figure object, in a single call. The subplots() function in the Matplotlib acts as a utility wrapper. In this tutorial, we will cover the subplots() function in the state-based interface Pyplot in the Matplotlib Library. ![]() In conclusion, the outcome in psychogenic amnesia, particularly those characterized by fugue, is better than generally supposed. By contrast, the two focal retrograde amnesia groups showed less improvement and continued to show a reversed temporal gradient. After 3–6 months, the fugue patients had improved to normal scores for facts and near-normal scores for events. ![]() The pattern of autobiographical memory loss differed between the psychogenic groups: fugue cases showed a severe and uniform loss of memories for both facts and events across all time periods, whereas the two focal retrograde amnesia groups showed a ‘reversed’ temporal gradient with relative sparing of recent memories. However, clinical depression, family/relationship problems, financial/employment problems, and failure to recognize the family were also statistically more common in that group. As anticipated, loss of the sense of personal identity was confined to the psychogenic group. While neurological cases were characterized by relevant neurological symptoms, a history of a past head injury was actually more common in our psychogenic cases ( P = 0.012), perhaps reflecting a ‘learning episode’ predisposing to later psychological amnesia. We found that our patients with psychogenic memory loss fell into four distinct groups, which we categorized as: (i) fugue state (ii) fugue-to-focal retrograde amnesia (iii) psychogenic focal retrograde amnesia following a minor neurological episode and (iv) patients with gaps in their memories. In particular, we examined the pattern of retrograde amnesia on an assessment of autobiographical memory (the Autobiographical Memory Interview). In the present study, we reviewed the case records and neuropsychological findings in 53 psychogenic amnesia cases (ratio of 3:1, males:females), in comparison with 21 consecutively recruited neurological memory-disordered patients and 14 healthy control subjects. Consequently, the literature on psychogenic amnesia is somewhat fragmented and offers little prognostic value for individual patients. There are very few case series of patients with acute psychogenic memory loss (also known as dissociative/functional amnesia), and still fewer studies of outcome, or comparisons with neurological memory-disordered patients. ![]() You can use it as a bedside lamp, and as it gets closer to the bedtime you set, the light slowly starts to fade, and you start to get sleepy while a sound of your choice plays (or not, if you’d prefer silence to fall asleep).
